PRESS RELEASE
MedSafetyWeek2025
With the participation of EOF, the 10th international campaign # begins todayMedSafetyWeek for the safer use of medicines with a key message:
Drug safety starts with us – each of us has a leading role in drug safety.
It's not just doctors, pharmacists or the competent authorities. Every patient/drug user, caregiver or family member can speak up and report suspected adverse reactions to the EOF through the Yellow Card, thus helping to protect others..
The Hellenic Medicines Authority, like all medicines authorities, uses all these reports to monitor the safety of medicines and address potential risks.
The aim of the campaign, which runs from November 3 to 9, is to make more people aware that their report matters.
Unfortunately, research shows that only 5-10% of all suspected adverse reactions are reportedThis means that we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg and that it takes more time to identify and highlight important security issues.
The common reasons for non reporting of suspected adverse reactions is:
- the ignorance that this it can to be done – and indeed by everyone
- the thought that it doesn't matter
- negligence
This year's #MedSafetyWeek campaign is the largest yet, with its message being spread in 117 countries and in more than 60 languages.
Every citizen, patient and healthcare professional can actively contribute by promoting in every appropriate way the understandable material that is posted daily on the EOF website and social media - it is also available in a consolidated format at the link
To enhance the campaign's reach through social media, please use the hashtags #MedSafetyWeek and #EOFkitrinikarta.
