PRESS RELEASE
With the participation of EOF, the information campaign on the safety of veterinary medicines begins today - VetMedSafety Day – designed by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the Federation of European Veterinarians (FVE) to raise public awareness of the need monitoring the safety of veterinary medicines.
The use of veterinary medicines may be accompanied by adverse events that are likely to occur in the animals that received the medicine, in the people who administered the medicine, or even in the environment.
This year's campaign focuses on antiparasitic and in particular their lack of expected effectiveness, which can lead to treatment failure and risks to animal and human health.
Useful instructions for avoiding and dealing with this problem are given in the information material hosted on the EOF website and social media. /ekstrateia-medsafetyday/
Reporting the lack of effectiveness of antiparasitics is important because competent authorities can take appropriate measures to maintain the safety of the medicines.
Each report is forwarded to the European database Eudravigilance and is taken into account in the ongoing evaluation process carried out at the European level and aims to ensure that the benefits of using medicines outweigh their risks.
Every report counts
