ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING THE AVAILABILITY OF MEDICINES VIA THE INTERNET

In the context of protecting public health and given that widespread sale of preparations of dubious quality via the internet has been identified that are promoted with therapeutic claims (sometimes under the "cloak" of a food supplement) while not having a drug license, the EOF draws attention to the fact that consumers should pay particular attention to the following:

  • On websites where the consumer is asked to send a completed contact form or contact a call center, without knowing the full contact details of the company responsible for the release of the product in question
  • On websites that appear to be Greek, without necessarily being so (the product descriptions and the posted "consumer" comments are provided in Greek, but it is obvious that they come from automatic translation, and usually contain a lot of syntax and spelling errors)
  • On websites that promote preparations with "spectacular" results against diseases

It is recalled that the purchase of products under the jurisdiction of the Hellenic Medicines Authority from unapproved and unreliable sources on the internet can seriously endanger the consumer's health, while under no circumstances is the sale of medicines over the internet permitted.
